After about a decade of spending $11,000 for an annual Independence Day fireworks show in Utica, it’ll cost around a third more this year. The Utica Village Board approved adding $3,500 to its budget for the show on Saturday, July 2nd. Village Clerk Laurie Gbur says to keep it at $11,000, the musical part of the show would have to be cut back or the fireworks would have to be much shorter than 20 minutes. She says this year will come time for the city to negotiate a new fireworks contract for the next three years.
