WEDNESDAY LOCAL SPORTS UPDATE

High School Baseball

Marquette defeated Eureka 6-2 at Masinelli Field. Pitcher Taylor Waldron struckout 12 batters in 6 innings. Logan Nelson hit a  two-run triple in the Crusader victory.

 

Ottawa won at home over Kankakee 3-2. Rylan Dorsey went 5 innings with 11 strikeouts for the Pirates.

 

Streator outscored Wilmington 5-4. The Bulldogs Parker Phillis pitched 6 strikeouts in the win.

 

Newark won at home over Indian Creek 16-5 in 5 innings. Caden Wheeler went 4-4 with 2 doubles with 6 RBIs. Wheeler also earned the win in pitching.

 

Earlville lost at Hinckley-Big Rock 13-5.Bryar Keller doubled and had an RBI for the Red Raiders.

 

Serena defeated Hiawatha 12-9. The Huskers Leo Brennan blasted a homerun with 2 RBIs.

 

Seneca were winners over their host Putnam County 7-5. Matt Cruise struckput 8 batters in the Irish win.

 

Woodland lost to Roanoke-Benson 11-3.

 

Hugh School Softball

Marquette won at home over Henry 4-0. Kaylee Killelea pitched a complete game with 16 strikeouts. Eva McCallum doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Lady Crusaders.

 

Streator won a thriller at home over Wilmington 5-4 in 8 innings. For the Lady Bulldogs, Jaelyn Blakemore pitched a complete game allowing 3 runs and striking out 8 batters. Emma Augustine blasted a solo homerun in the victory.

 

Earlville lost at home to Sandwich 8-4. Pitcher Paige Marks had 6 strikeouts in the loss.

 

Newark dominated at home over Indian Creek 11-1 in 5 innings. For the Lady Norsemen, Bre Dixon, Kodi Rizzo and Kailey Wohead each had 2 hits with runs scored. Winning pitcher Taylor Kruser had 12 strikeouts.

 

Serena won on the road at Hiawatha 11-4. Katie Baker, RayElle Brennan and Paisley Twait each had 2 RBIs, Maddie Glade went 7 innings with 8 strikeouts in the Huskers win.

 

Woodland won big at home over Henry 16-3 in 5 innings.

 

The Ottawa JV tennis team defeated Kaneland. Winners for the Pirates: Rylan Salas and Collin Olszewski in singles, the team of Alan Sifuentes and Tucker Ditchfield, partners Trevor Mortenson and Caden Walter and the team of Ethan Farr and Aric Threadgill in doubles.
