Rep. Demmer says Pritzker paints a rosy picture with election year budget

Republican St. Rep. Tom Demmer of Dixon says Gov. Pritzker is using an “avalanche” of federal COVID bailout money during an election year to pause calling for big tax increases and say the state’s in great shape. Demmer says the state’s budget proposal would increase spending by 8% while regular revenue falls by 1%. Demmer says when the bailout money runs out, Pritzker will go back to calling for tax hikes.

Illinois voters said no in 2020 to a graduated income tax. Pritzker had said that there would have to be big budget cuts and tax hikes to get by without it.

Demmer is running in the Republican primary for Illinois Treasurer.
