About $10.2 million worth of railroad crossing work will be done in LaSalle County over the next several years. The state’s five-year plan will put $386 million in money from the Grade Crossing Protection Fund into the projects all over Illinois. The fund will cover about 95% of the costs in LaSalle County with local governments or the railroads picking up the rest.
The Illinois Commerce Commission says it’s giving priority to crossings with high collision histories, those in need of pedestrian access, and those without automatic warning signals. Some crossings will get gates with flashing lights.
Crossings to get the work in LaSalle County are in Wedron, Troy Grove, LaSalle, Peru, Kangley, Streator, Lostant, Marseilles, Ottawa, and Utica.
