High school baseball
Marquette shut out their host Dwight 6-0. The Crusaders used 3 pitchers to complete the no hitter with Aiden Thompson going the first 5 innings with 7 strikeouts, followed by Logan Nelson going 1 inning 2 strikeouts and Carson Zellers going the last inning striking out 3 batters. Sam Mitre, Tom Durdan, Logan Nelson, Brady and Beau Ewers all had an RBI in the Cru Victory.
Streator won a close one at home over Lisle 6-5 in their Illinois Central Eight Conference opener. Parker Phillis pitched 5 innings allowing two walks with 10 strikeouts and Christian Benning earned the win coming in the 7th to pitch for the Bulldogs.
Seneca traveled to Streator and defeated Woodland 9-0. Pitching for the Irish, Matt Cruise went 4 innings with 9 strikeouts and Brady Barla threw 2 innings striking out 4 batters.
Varsity Softball
Marquette outscored their host Dwight 8-5 to earn a Tri-County Conference win. Kaylee Killelea pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts. Abbey Thumm and Avery Durdan led the Lady crusaders with three hits each, while Eva McCallum, Makayla Backos, Kaylee Killelea and Izzy Garkey each had 2 hits in the victory.
In a Tri-County Conference matchup Seneca won on the road at Woodland 12-5. For the Lady Irish Taya Roe pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. Shae Simons also threw 7 innings with 9 strikeouts and allowed 6 runs in the loss for Woodland
Streator were winners at Rochelle in girls soccer. Zuzu Gonzales and Anna Jaworski each scored a goal for the Lady Bulldogs.
11 teams competed in track and field at the Rosenberry Classic in Sterling. Princeton finished in 2nd place behind Riverdale. St Bede finished placing 5th, Bureau Valley placed 7th and the Hall team ended the day in 10th place.
The Bulls defeated the Wizards 107-94. DeMar DeRozan led the way with 32 points, Nikola Vucevic added 27 for the Bulls who will host the Clippers tomorrow night.
The Cubs beat the Diamondbacks 3-2 in Mesa, Arizona. The Cubs host the Seattle Mariners today.
The White Sox acquired outfielder Adam Haseley from the Phillies in exchange for right-handed pitcher McKinley Moore. The 25-year-old Haseley played with Philadelphia over the last three seasons. The Sox host the Texas Rangers today in Spring Training action.
The Cardinals play the Washington Nationals today in Palm Beach. The Redbirds enter with a 5-and-4 record so far in Spring Training.
The Blackhawks play the Panthers tomorrow night in Sunrise, Florida. The Hawks come in at 24-33-and-10 after splitting their last four games.
The NFL approved a modified proposal for overtime yesterday that will guarantee each team a possession, but only in the postseason. The rule for regular-season games, which allows the team with the first possession to win if it scores a touchdown, will remain unchanged. If the score remains tied in the postseason after each team has had a possession, the game will be decided in traditional sudden death.
Tiger Woods may be on the verge of making another comeback. The five time Masters winner played a practice round at Augusta National yesterday. Woods has not played in a PGA Tour event since 2020 after He suffered a serious leg and foot injuries in a car accident in February of last year.
