Gas left on despite leak, home owner says he was told that would be okay

A south side Ottawa man says if he’d been told he needed to have the gas turned off at his home last night, he would have agreed. The Ottawa Fire Department says he insisted on leaving the gas on after he called about a possible gas leak. Fire fighters found a problem with the furnace. The fire department’s report says the fire fighters’ advice was to turn off the gas until the furnace is repaired, but he wanted to leave it on with the thermostat turned down. In a telephone call to WCMY News, the home owner says he was told that would be okay.
