When a LaSalle County Board member is on vacation or other personal business, he or she can monitor board and committee meetings. But the member won’t be allowed to vote. The board approved the change this month.
Member Arratta Znaniecki of Ottawa asked why the person’s vote shouldn’t count. The answer is that’s the state’s rule and the county should adopt a rule that doesn’t conflict with it. If the member’s gone because of an emergency, illness, or having to work, he or she is allowed to vote.
