Due to the weather, local high school sports were postponed and rescheduled for a later date. 

 

Varsity Baseball scheduled for today, Ottawa will host Pontiac, Marquette is home to face Aurora Christian and Seneca is also home against Newark.

LP will host the Cavalier Invitational Series starting today in baseball.  The Cavaliers will host seven teams which includes Streator, Hall and Princeton.

Games scheduled today in softball, Ottawa is at Streator, Marquette travels to Notre Dame and Seneca is on the road at Manteno.

 

 

Tonight begins the round of the Sweet Sixteen in the Men’s NCAA Tournament. #4 Arkansas versus top seed Gonzaga, 11th seed Michigan takes on #2 Villanova, 3rd seed Texas Tech faces #2 Duke and Top seeded Arizona versus #5 Houston.

Matchups for Friday, St Peter’s versus Purdue, Providence faces Kansas, North Carolina versus UCLA and Iowa State will take on Miami. 

 

Yesterday’s results in the National Invitational Tournament also known as the NIT in Men’s NCAA basketball: Wake Forest lost to Texas AM and Washington State defeated BYU.  The Final Four round of the NIT begins on Sunday. 

 

The Cubs and White Sox both scored 5 runs yesterday in Cactus League action.  The Cubs defeated the A’s 5-4 at Sloan Park.  The White Sox lost to the Texas Rangers 14-5 in Surprise, Arizona.  Today, the Cubs play the Angels on the road and the White Sox host the San Francisco Giants.

 

The Cardinals suffered their first loss of Spring Training in the Grapefruit League.  St. Louis lost to the Astros 10-3 in Palm Beach, Florida. The Cardinals play the Nationals today in Sarasota. 

 

The Blackhawks beat the Ducks 4-2 in Anaheim.  Taylor Raddysh, Patrick Kane, Dylan Strome and Alex DeBrincat each scored while goalie Kevin Lankinen made 27 saves and allowed two goals for the Hawks.  The Blackhawks stay in California to play the Kings in LA tonight. 

 

The Chicago Bulls play the Pelicans in New Orleans tonight. The Bulls enter the matchup at 42-and-30, while the Pelicans are 30-and-42. 

 

NFL News

The Chicago Bears are adding some depth to their offensive line.  The Bears signed guard Dakota Dozier to a one-year contract.  Dozier spent the last three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. 

 

There was another big trade in the NFL, The Kansas City Chiefs are trading six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins.  Miami will send five draft picks back to Kansas City including a first round, a second round and fourth round pick this year.  The Chiefs also get a fourth and sixth round pick in the 2023 draft.  Hill and Miami have reportedly already agreed to an extension that will make him the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history.
