High School Baseball
After 4 innings, Ottawa were winners at Serena 6-1. For the Pirates, Payton Mangold pitched 4 innings with 1 earned run and 9 strikeouts, Dan Bruner finished the game with 2 strikeouts and no earned runs. Cam Figgins went 3 innings with 3 earned runs and 4 strikeouts for the Huskers.
Streator suffered a tough loss at home to Plainfield South 12-0 in 5 innings. The Bulldogs Parker Phillis, Nolan Barr, Brady Grabowski and Christian Benning each earned a single for the offense.
Putnam County got a road win over Somonauk 3-0. The Panther’s Drake Smith pitched a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and just one walk in the victory.
Earlville lost at Mendota 16-0 in 4 innings
High School Softball
Ottawa lost at home to Serena 9-3. Maddie Glade pitched 7 innings with 10 strikeouts and a complete game victory for the Lady Huskers.
Ryleigh Stehl singled twice and drove in a run, with Maura Condon pitching 5 innings and 8 strikeouts in the Lady Pirates loss.
Woodland won at home over Peoria Christian 10-5. The Lady Warriors Cheyenne Burns came in to pitch 5 innings with 6 strikeouts and allowing only 1 earned run.
LP defeated the home team Princeton 15-5. Pitcher Chloe Mitchell earned the win for the Lady Cavaliers with 5 earned runs, four strikeouts and four walks. Also for the Cavs, Evin Becker had a solo home run in the seventh.
The Earlville Lady Huskers lost on the road at Mendota 6-1.
Milwaukee crushed the Chicago Bulls 126-98. Nikola Vucevic had 22 points for the Bulls who will play the Pelicans in New Orleans tomorrow night.
The White Sox won yesterday and the Cubs tied in Cactus League action. The White Sox defeated the Brewers 4-3 in Phoenix. The Cubs tied the Mariners 5-5 in Peoria Arizona. Today, the Cubs host the A’s and the White Sox play the Rangers on the road.
Major League Baseball and the Players Association have agreed to make a few changes in the rules before the start of the 2022 season. The three main changes include expanded rosters, automatic runners on second base during extra innings and pitchers being able to stay in games after they are pulled from the mound as designated hitters.
The Blackhawks play the Anaheim Ducks on the road tonight. The Hawks are 22-32-and-9 after losing three in a row.
The top-ranked female tennis player Ashleigh Barty posted on her social media that she is retiring from the court at the age of 25. The announcement comes just months after Barty won the Australian Open. The Australia native closes her tennis career having won three Grand Slam titles.
