Matthiessen sunflower planting to start soon

By WCMY News Mar 23, 2022 | 11:54 AM

No matter how much you want to sport some sunflowers to show support for Ukraine, don’t take any from Matthiessen State Park. Site Superintendent Alvin Harper says taking any plants out of the state parks is illegal.

It’ll be a few months before the 60 acres of sunflowers are in bloom. They haven’t been planted yet. Harper says as far as he knows, the farmer who plants them will be able to get enough seeds this spring. So they can bloom about mid-July, the seeds need to go into the ground by May 1.
