The Illinois Department of Corrections wants to downsize the Pontiac and Vandalia Correctional Centers. St Sen. Jason Barickman says the IDOC has reclassified some maximum security inmates as medium security and moved them to other facilities.
He says he offered IDOC Director Rob Jefferys a chance to explain what’s happening at a town hall, which he first accepted and then declined. Barickman says it’s unfortunate and he still wants to do something about it.
The proposed plan says the Pontiac Correction Center would close the medium-security unit to lower their inmate count by almost 1,000. Barickman is also running for the 53rd state senate district, which reaching into southeastern LaSalle County.
