A University of Illinois Extension Director says if non-commercial bird owners want to protect their flock from bird flu, they should avoid the droppings of other birds. The Avian Bird Flu was detected in central Illinois last week.
Director Terri Miller-Casey says if you think your flock could have caught the flu, you might see them not drinking water, not laying eggs, coughing, and sneezing
She says owners can call the Illinois Department of Agriculture or USDA if they think their birds have caught it. She says the flu doesn’t present an immediate threat to humans at this time.
