Republican St. Rep. Tom Demmer of Dixon doesn’t think pausing the 1% sales tax on groceries, as Gov. Pritzker proposes, will do much to relieve people’s financial strains. Republican lawmakers are proposing a tax credit for families making up to $150,000 per year.
The state’s Republicans are also proposing gasoline tax relief. Demmer says while lawmakers are considering the state’s next budget and setting priorities for using taxpayer money, they should also consider the things those taxpayers are dealing with in their lives.
