St. Sen. Sue Rezin says Illinois government already knows what should have been done at the LaSalle veterans home before 36 residents died in a COVID-19 outbreak. The Morris Republican is pushing three bills aimed at speeding up state response to disease outbreaks at veterans homes and having outbreak preparedness drills. One of the bills would give the Illinois inspector general subpoena powers when investigating problems.

Rezin asks how many reports must reach the governor’s desk before something changes. She believes the bills she’s supporting would get unanimous support in both chambers if they’re called out of committee.
