Last night in the IESA Sectional Round for 7th grade volleyball

In the Class 1A, The Marquette Lady Knights advanced to the state tournament after defeating their host Holy Family in Oglesby. Marquette will now travel to Clinton Jr High to face St Thomas in round one at the State Tourney on Friday.

Shepherd’s season came to an end by their host Bolingbrook after 2 matches in Class 4A.

 

Tonight in the 8th grade IESA regional semi-finals in volleyball

Marquette takes on Milton Pope in Class 1A at Flanagan Grade School. Also in Class 1A Holy Family of Oglesby will host Dimmick.

Marseilles will face Dwight in Class 2A at Mazon Middle School and Wallace takes on Midland also in Class 2A at Putnam County Jr High.

 

It was loud and exciting last night at Ottawa High School in varsity basketball. Metamora defeated St Francis of Wheaton 60-44 in the Class 3A Super Sectional. It was the first time that a Super Sectional was ever held in Kingman Gym.

Metamora will now face Simeon at the State Farm Center in Champaign in the State Semi Finals. 

 

The final coaches poll of the college basketball season is out and Gonzaga is once again the top team in the nation.  The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 24-and-3 record.  Arizona, Baylor, Auburn, and Kentucky round out the rest of the top five. For the Big Ten, Purdue stayed in the top ten at nine, Wisconsin finished at 12th, The Illini moved up two spots to finish at 15th, the Iowa Hawkeyes also gained 2 spots at 23, Ohio State went in the other direction and dropped two spots to round out the top 25 and Michigan State fell out of the top 25.

 

Illinois State announced the hiring of  Ohio State’s Longtime standout assistant coach Ryan Pedon as the new head coach of the Redbirds men’s basketball program.

 

The Chicago Bulls’ losing streak is up to a season-high five straight after they were pounded by the 76ers 121-106 in Philadelphia.  Zach LaVine scored 24 points to lead the Bulls who slipped to 39-and-26 overall and look to end the skid tomorrow in Detroit.

 

The Blackhawks are back on their home ice tonight to take on the Anaheim Ducks.  The Hawks have lost six of their last eight games after Sunday’s 6-3 setback to Tampa Bay. 

 

The NFL announced this year’s salary cap and it will be set at 208.2 million dollars for the 2022 season.  That’s a steep increase from last year, which was set at 182.5.  That figure was lower due to lost revenue stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.  The league’s new year draws closer as teams must get under the salary cap by March 16th.  That will also mark the start of NFL free agency.  

 

The MLB and the Players Association plan to meet today after continuing discussions on Monday.  If no agreement is reached today, the league plans to cancel another week of regular season games and may even officially shorten the typical 162-game season for 2022.  The league and the players are reportedly still far apart on financial issues.
