Democratic Cong. Lauren Underwood says she’s glad Pres. Biden will prioritize making mental health care accessible. She says she’s including parts of her plan for three mental health visits per year without out-of-pocket costs. The 14th District candidate says health care coverage is more affordable than ever and Pres. Biden is committing to continue lowering the average costs for all. She thanked Biden for highlighting work to lower health care costs during the State of the Union address.
Republican Congressional candidate Jack Lombardi used social media to call Pres. Biden a liar last night. He said Biden should have opened the State of the Union address with an apology and used a “Biden is a failure” hashtag. Lombardi says Biden didn’t create jobs—people went back to work. And he called the President “Sleepy Joe Biden” and said Biden was up three hours past his bedtime.
Republican candidate James Marter praised Pres. Trump for energy independence, a secure border, and record job growth. He said Pres. Biden gave the country expensive gasoline, chaos, and record inflation.
Cong. Adam Kinzinger says some politicians—Republicans and Democrats—were announcing their own speeches opposing Pres. Biden before the State of the Union address. The Channahon Republican says that shows people aren’t listening to each other and are just trying to knock the other side down. Kinzinger says the State of the Union has become political theater and isn’t the address to Congress our forefathers envisioned.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth says Pres. Biden reminded everyone in his speech last night that there’s nothing Americans can’t overcome. She says the Democratic Party is creating historic levels of new jobs, rebuilding roads, and making sure drinking water is safe. Duckworth says she’s proud of what Pres. Biden has done to unify and lead the free world against Vladimir Putin for the invasion of Ukraine.
Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin says Pres. Biden laid out a strategy to lower costs for American families, put workers and small businesses first, pass commonsense gun legislation, and more. Durbin says fighting the opioid drug addiction crisis, supporting veterans, and ending cancer are bipartisan issues we can all agree on.
