Illinois American Water is warning customers about new scams. The water company says scammers are trying to get money, personal information, or both.
Water Company Spokesperson Karen Cotton says the scammers can be pretty convincing.
She says if someone contacts you claiming to be a utility worker, you can ask for a company issued photo ID, look for a logo, and never give cash if asked. She says employees who work for the company won’t ask for personal information or cash.
She says if you suspect someone is an impostor, lock your doors and call 911.
