The Illinois Department of Corrections and state lawmakers are discussing the future of both the Pontiac and Vandalia Correctional Centers. Republican St Rep. Dan Brady and other colleagues sent a letter to the governor and the director of the D-O-C after a significant amount of inmates were transferred to other facilities.
Brady says this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. He says he believes this is the third time an administration has tried to change this.
Audio PlayerThe proposed plan says the Pontiac Correction Center would close the medium-security unit to lower their inmate count by almost 1,000. The plan would also lower the count of the Vandalia Correctional Center to 401.
