Streator City Hall would rather pay employees for their unused time off along the way than all at once when they retire. A new contract with the Laborers Local 393 lets its members sell back unused vacation time. And a contract with the International Fire Fighters Local 56 lets its members sell back unused sick leave. That eases the strain on the city when someone retires and could take weeks or months off work while the city can’t fill the position yet. Each contract provides 2.5% raises for each of the three years it’s in effect.
