Other regional championship scheduled for tonight;

  • At the Class 2A Somonauk Regional Championship, Sandwich versus Aurora Catholic  
  • In the Class 2A Seneca Regional Championship, Seneca will host Fieldcrest 
  • The Class 1A Dwight Regional Championship between St Bede and Newark hass postponed until Friday due to incoming weather

 

Tonight’s Marquette game hosting LaMoile was canceled due to incoming weather conditions.

 

Last night in boys basketball, Streator were winners on the road over Morris 76-67. Top performers for the Bulldogs were Christian Benning with 28 points and Jack Haynes finishing with 23 points.

 

LP lost to Rochelle 92-59. John Riva scored 17 points for the Cavaliers in the loss.

 

St Bede came up short at Putnam County 62-58. Paul Hart had a big night with 39 points and 12 rebounds for the Bruins in the tough loss.

 

In junior high volleyball both Shepherd teams defeated Seneca. Leading the way for the 7th grade Lady Rams was Adalynn Russell with 20 points. For the 8th grade Lady Rams, Hayley Ewers scored 11 points and Jordan Allen had 10 points.

 

Elsewhere in sports

The Chicago Bulls are heading into the All-Star break with the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls beat the Kings 125-118 at home behind another huge night from DeMar DeRozan, who scored 38 points for his seventh consecutive 35-plus point game, breaking a record held by Wilt Chamberlain.

 

The Blackhawks open up a six-game homestand tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. .  The ‘Hawks have won two-of-three to improve to 18-24-and-7 on the season.

 

The 12th-ranked Fighting Illini are coming home after a 70-59 upset loss to Rutgers in New Jersey.  Kofi Cockburn netted 20 points to pace Illinois, which slipped to 18-and-7 including 11-and-4 in Big Ten play.  The Illini look to bounce back Saturday at 19th-ranked Michigan State.

 

Also in college basketball, Northwestern fell short against seventh-ranked Purdue 70-64, and Notre Dame slipped past Boston College in overtime 99-95.

 

Over in the PGA,  The Genesis Open will tee off from the Riviera Country Club in California.  

 

The US women’s ice hockey team is settling for a silver medal at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.  Team USA was topped by Canada 3-2 in the gold medal game. This marks the fourth time in the last 20 years that the United States won the silver medal in women’s ice hockey.
