Residents in Mendota are invited to be bold and get cold by taking the Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics. The event starts Saturday, February 26 at the Mendota Civic Center at 10:30.

And then at noon, Polar Plunge Director Debbie Kelly says participants drive to Lake Mendota to take the plunge.

She says groups can register online and must raise $100 dollars to participate. Groups can sign up by going here. She says 155 groups have already signed up.

But Kelly says if groups want to do their own plunge, they can. It’s part of the new initiative with Special Olympics called Plunge Your Way.

She says two years ago, the Mendota Polar Plunge raised about $55,000. Kelly says the goal this year is to raise about $28,000.
