The LaSalle Public Library will soon have some wildflower seeds to give away. It’s one of 50 libraries across the country chosen for the Plant Wildflowers Initiative grant program. The program aims to replant one billion square feet of grasslands with native wildflowers for “pollinator pathways”. That’s about 23,000 acres.

A University of Illinois Extension master gardener will help identify areas where wildflowers can grow and benefit from community plantings. She’ll also help set up seed distribution events.

People and civic groups interested in the program should contact the LaSalle library by mid-March.
