Jordan block hotel, another Illinois River bridge, development west of city in Ottawa comprehensive plan update

The consultant helping Ottawa update its comprehensive plan thinks a hotel or residential living would be a good fit for the Jordan block. Whether that makes it into the plan the City Council adopts next month remains to be seen. Plan Commission Chair Brent Barron says the people are used to the open gathering space, so anything else that goes there had better be good. The hotel idea has been around since about 2004. The plan would have a garden, parking, and condominiums along Woodward Memorial Dr.

The updated comprehensive plan for Ottawa looks ahead at development west of the city. It would be in the area of E. 13th Rd. and Interstate 80 with on-ramps and off-ramps there, two miles west of Terra Cotta Rd. The plan suggests two driving lanes and a middle turn lane on W. Norris Dr. to make room for better sidewalks. The consultants from Teska Associates of Plainfield say traffic can get through more easily than with two driving lanes each way and no turn lane.

A couple new bridges would be built, if the plan is fully implemented. One would cross the Illinois River between Marseilles and Ottawa. The other would replace the relatively new Fox River bridge at Dayton.
