Public libraries around LaSalle County have been getting rid of late fees on overdue items. The Peru Public Library is now also making the change after February 1st.
No late fees will apply to books, DVDs, magazines, audio books, and kits. But the library says anyone who doesn’t return an item in twenty-one days will receive a bill to replace it.
Peru Library Board President Mike Watts say various studies have shown that late fines don’t encourage people to return overdue items. By removing the overdue fines, it will increase library access to everyone by removing the barrier.
