Dixon Republican St Rep. Tom Demmer wants to get rid of the office of the State Comptroller. Demmer says this would save money for the taxpayers in the state.
He says in a new proposal, the state Treasurer would maintain the State’s central fiscal accounts and be responsible for safekeeping and investing monies and securities. He says he’s filed legislation to combine the two offices before, but has consistently been blocked by Democrats who are unwilling to advance common sense reform proposals.
Demmer announce earlier this month that he is running for Illinois Treasurer. He says he’ll be on the side of Illinois families and work to protect their hard-earned dollars by shining a light on how tax dollars are spent.
He says if the two offices merge, it could save taxpayer up to twelve million dollars a year.
