Ottawa City Commissioner James Less would have liked the city to do a study on how to lower the Riordan Pool operating costs before hiring an architect to design a new pool.

But he was outvoted three-to-one this week when the council hired Kmetz Architects. Commissioner Marla Pearson says he made good points though.

Running Riordan Pool costs the city about $100,000 more than it gets in revenue from it every year. Kmetz Architects will get 9% of the expected $4.5 million construction cost.
