Last night Ottawa fell short to Rochelle 63-56 in varsity basketball. For the Pirates, Luke Cushing scored 17 points and eight rebounds and Braiden Miller earned a double double by scoring 14 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
The JV squad won 65-50 with Cooper Knoll scoring 18 points and Huston Hart adding 16 more in the win.
Also in basketball, Serena won big at home over DuPue 89-49. Camden Figgins finished with 18 points and 15 points from Bradley Armour for the Huskers.
Seneca hosted Marquette and St Bede in a triangular contest in wrestling. Match winners for the Fighting Irish were: Bill Farcus, Jaden Casey, Nate Othon, Tommy Milton, Robby Nelson, Owen Feiner, Asher Hamby, Kyle Hamby, Chris Peura and Alex Bogner.

The Chicago Bulls’ nine-game home winning streak came to an end after a 138-112 home loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Zach LaVine scored 28 points to lead the Bulls, which slipped to 27-and-12 on the season. The Bulls host the Warriors tomorrow.
The Blackhawks are back home to skate against the Montreal Canadiens tonight. Anaheim will then come to town on Saturday before the Hawks head to Seattle to face the Kraken on Monday. The Blackhawks have won two in-a-row on the heels of a six-game skid.
In college hoops, the ISU Redbirds lost on the road to Drake 86-75, Northwestern lost in double-overtime to Maryland 94-87, while Notre Dame cruised past Clemson 72-56 for its sixth straight win.
The 24th-ranked Fighting Illini are back home to clash with Michigan tomorrow night in Champaign. Illinois has won five in-a-row and 10 of its last 11 following a 10-point victory at Nebraska on Tuesday. The Illini sit at 12-and-3 on the season including 5-and-0 in Big Ten play.
Former Cubs pitcher Jon Lester is retiring. Lester says the game has taken a toll on his body. and he doesn’t want to be told he can’t do the job anymore and wants to leave on his own terms. Lester helped the Cubs end their long World Series drought in 2016, and won 200 games over his career.
