The term lengths for the new LaSalle County Board districts were chosen by the county’s Democratic and Republican party chairs today. County Clerk Lori Bongartz had Larry Smith from the Republican Party draw the district numbers and Dani Brzozowski from the Democratic Party draw the term lengths.

Fifteen of the 29 districts will end the next decade with two-year terms and the rest will begin with two-year terms. The districts in the two-four-four pattern are numbers 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 11,13, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 27, and 28. In the four-four-two pattern are districts 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, and 29.

The district map approved in November is the one that will go into the next decade until after the 2030 census and redistricting in 2031. County Board attorney Patrick Herrmann explained this afternoon, it’s too late to undo it. Some Republicans had misgivings about the map, but their December effort to repeal it and approve another one didn’t have enough steam. Herrmann says the deadline to redo it was December 31. Board members could either let the tabled motion expire or take it off the table to quash it. They did the former.
