When Oglesby city employees have to take time off because of the coronavirus, they get administrative leave pay. It doesn’t come out of their paid sick leave. Some city commissioners don’t think that’s a great policy.

Commissioner Jason Curran says there’s a potential for fraud, although he doesn’t believe anyone is being dishonest and he doesn’t know a better way.

Mayor Dominic Rivara would rather let people stay home and not risk spreading the virus.

Oglesby employees get one paid sick day per month, but they can add up a lot of them the longer they work without using any. Curran points out, that’s something the city has tried to limit so it’s not cutting checks for gigantic sums when someone retires.
