Tonight’s game between the Ottawa Pirates and The LP Cavaliers has been postponed for tonight at Kingman Gym due to COVID concerns. Makeup date to be announced later this morning.
Other games scheduled for tonight: The Marquette Crusaders are on the road to face Roanoke-Benson, Seneca is home to take on Low Point and Hall is home to battle Newman-Catholic.
Streator high school announced that students will be doing remote learning starting today thru Monday January 17th. All basketball games and practices will be paused until Tuesday January 18th. The Bulldogs will attempt to reschedule all the games if possible.
Last night results in high school sports
The Ottawa girls bowling team defeated Kaneland. High rollers for the Lady Pirates were Mckenzie Lewis with a 501 series total and two high scores of 171 also Laura Pool scored a 486 series score and a high game of 181.
In girls basketball
Serena won at Hiawatha 58-9. For the Lady Huskers, Makayla McNally scored a game high 18 points and Katie Baker posted 12 points, 10 steals and five assists.
Earlville were winners at home over Somonauk 35-32. Alexis Olson led the Lady Red Raiders with 12 points.
There was boys basketball in Serena and the Huskers defeated DePue 89-49. Camden Figgins led Serena with 18 points with Bradley Armour adding 15 more in the home victory.
St Bede competed in a triangular event with Kanekand and their host Sandwich in wrestling. Bruins that scored wins were: Ben Koyak, Ryan Migliorini and Blair Stuepfert.
Elsewhere in sports
The Blackhawks gave up three goals in the third period and lost to the Coyotes 6-4 in the desert. Jonathan Toews had a goal and an assist for the Hawks which dropped its sixth straight. The Blackhawks visit Vegas tomorrow.
The Chicago Bulls aim for a ninth straight win tonight when they host the Washington Wizards. The Bulls extended the streak with Monday’s four-point victory over Orlando and lead the Eastern Conference at 25-and-10.
In college basketball, Illinois won at home over Maryland 76-64. For the Illini, Kofi Cockburn scored 23 points and tied a career-high with 18 rebounds after early foul trouble. Illinois is now 11-3 and 4-0 in the Big Ten Conference.
The Chicago Bears are headed to Minnesota to visit the Vikings to wrap up the season on Sunday. Quarterback Justin Fields has been placed in COVID-19 protocols and his status for the game is in doubt. The Bears sit at 6-and-10 overall.
