Some lawmakers say they’ll try again to enact more penalties for people who attack child welfare and adult services workers. St. Sen. Brian Stewart says case workers for the Department of Children and Family Services deal with angry people and risky situations. But the penalty for attacking a case worker isn’t as tough as for attacking a teacher or a fire fighter. Stewart, a Freeport Republican, says Republican bills to change that are routinely sent to Senate subcommittees that do nothing with them. Dixon Republican St. Rep. Tom Demmer and another Republican House member are trying again with a bill that passed the House but stalled in the Senate. This is after the stabbing death of Deidre Silas south of Springfield while she was on a home visit on Tuesday.
