A barge fleeting operation handling up to 106 barges east of Seneca could have been one of our top stories of 2021. Instead, the story is that the business can’t get started yet. Grundy County Judge Sheldon Sobol says it’ll take an act of the state legislature for the project to be allowed. His ruling also found that a couple who live across from the project site on the Illinois River don’t have the interested party status they thought they did. Each side is asking Sobol to reconsider his ruling. He has said he thinks his ruling is well grounded, but the request to reconsider is a formality usually required before anyone can appeal to a higher court.
