After a decade in the U.S. House, Congressman Adam Kinzinger announced in 2021 that it’s time for him to go. That’s one of our top stories of the year. He hasn’t said exactly what he’ll do after his term ends, but he says he wants to reform the Republican Party so it’s not just about supporting Donald Trump. The Channahon Republican started the Country 1st PAC with that goal. He says politics is too bitterly toxic these days to produce good for the country.
Some people were already telling Kinzinger to go. The LaSalle County Republican Party censured him in February for things he said while not supporting Pres. Trump. Kinzinger voted to impeach Trump for allegedly instigating the Capitol Hill riot.
Earlier during his time in Congress, Kinzinger was involved with No Labels, a movement that aimed to bring Democrats and Republicans together as people who disagreed but still respected each other. He says he’s not involved with that movement anymore.
