Tonight the Lady Pirates take on Canton at Kingman Gym in the Lady Pirates Holiday Tournament. Game time is 6pm with Andrew Evola and Slaten Swords with the call of the game on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY and online at 1430 WCMY DOT COM.

 

Last night the Marquette Lady Crusaders suffered a tough loss to Serena 45-25 at Bader Gym. Makayla McNally finished with a game high 17 points for the Lady Huskers. Marquette’s  Josie Eager made the only 3 by either team in the contest.

Ottawa won big over Streator 49-12. Brooke Waddell finished with 17 points and Grace Carroll posted eight points, three assists and five steals for Ottawa. Marisa  Vickers led the Lady Bulldogs with four points and six rebounds.

LP outscored Pontiac 52-42. Brooklyn Ficek had a game-high 22 points, four assists and four steals for the Cavaliers

And Metamora were winners over JCA 52-20.

The Bruins lost to Putnam County 55-43 and Fieldcrest defeated Seneca 54-24.

 

Tonight in Boys Basketball, Marquette is at Alleman, LP travels to Sandwich and Seneca is at Newark.

 

Elsewhere in sports

The NHL is pausing its season after tonight through Christmas Day in response to the COVID-19 outbreaks throughout the league. All games and practices will be shut down until Sunday when players will return to team facilities to get tested.  The Hawks next scheduled game is now next Tuesday against Columbus.

Minnesota earned a 17-9 victory over the Bears on Monday Night Football at Soldier Field.  David Montgomery had 60 rushing yards in the loss for the Bears, who dropped to 4-and-10 and will visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Also last night in the NFL, The Las Vegas Raiders beat the Browns 16-14 in Cleveland. The Browns fell to 7-and-7, while the Raiders improved to 7-and-7.

DeMar DeRozan led the charge with a game-high 26 points as the Bulls blasted the Rockets 133-118 in Chicago.  Coby White added 24 points off the bench for the Bulls, who have won two in-a-row to improve to 19-and-10 on the season.  The Bulls host Toronto tomorrow.

 

In college basketball action, Northwestern smashed Illinois-Springfield 90-50, and Notre Dame hammered Western Michigan 85-52. Illinois meets Mizzou tomorrow in St. Louis.  

 

Former Chicago Bulls player and now Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr is going to lead Team USA basketball for the next three years.  Kerr will succeed Gregg Popovich as the Men’s National Team head coach through 2024.
