St. Sen. Brian Stewart says Democrats think they have the right to interfere with medical decisions for minor children. The Freeport Republican says repealing the Parental Notice of Abortion Act will leave young girls vulnerable when they need support and guidance.

St. Sen. Sue Rezin says the repeal will make it hard for parents to uphold their responsibility to care for their daughters. The Morris Republican says as the mother of two daughters, she can’t find enough words to express how angry and disappointed she is about the repeal.

The repeal’s supporters say parents are often part of the problem teenage girls need to be shielded from. Gov. Pritzker signed the bill Friday.
