Ottawa Fire Department looking to buy new tower truck

The Ottawa Fire Department wants to purchase a new tower truck. That type of truck is used to reach high buildings by extending a ladder.

But Deputy Fire Chief Brent Bressner says the ladder on the old truck failed an annual test and the department had to pay about $4,000 in repairs. He says if it fails this year, the ladder will be shut down.

Bressner says the department is looking at a new truck through Pierce Manufacturing.

He says the city could pay for the new truck over several years but it would take about 13 to 17 months to get the new one since it has to be built from scratch.
