Morris gets biggest airport funding grant on statewide list

By WCMY News Dec 2, 2021 | 6:15 AM

Morris gets the biggest grant on a statewide list of 96 airport projects getting state funding. The state will give the city of Morris 80% of the $14.7 million needed to make a crosswind runway at the city’s airport. A Rebuild Illinois grant announcement yesterday says the state’s giving nearly $11.8 million for the project. The rest will come from a local match. Another runway will give pilots another option for taking off and landing during strong winds that can be hard to fight when they’re going in a different direction than an airplane.

Peru will get $36,000 of the $40,000 it needs for a tractor for taking care of the property at Illinois Valley Regional Airport. The tractor will have a flex wing mower.

The grant announcements totaled $94 million statewide.
