Last night on WCMY,  Marquette  held on to beat St Bede 53-51 at Bader Gym. Leading the way for the Crusaders were Tom Durdan scoring 16 points with Logan Nelson and Aidan Thompson each adding 11 points.

The JV boys also won over the Bruins 68-52.  Charlie Mullen led the JV Cru with 22 points.

 

Serena were winners at home over Amboy 53-28. Camden Figgins scored 18 points for the Huskers.

 

Seneca lost to Morris 61-52. Noah Quigley and Carter Ellis each scored 13 points for the Fighting Irish.

 

Woodland won at home over their Tri-County Rival Depue 50-36. Phoenix Cooper scored a team-high 17 points for the Warriors.

Newark lost on the road to Putnam County 55-50.

 

Tonight in Girls Basketball, The Ottawa Lady Pirates will host Dixon at Kingman Gym.

 

Couple results in boys freshman basketball:

Ottawa defeated Indian Creek 40-31. Leading scorers were Weston Averkamp with 12 points, Jackson Cooper added 8 more, and Aric Threadgill finished with seven.

Marquette defeated Bureau Valley 50-28. For the Crusaders, Julian Alexander had 17 points and AJ Phalen added 14 points.  

 

The St. Bede wrestling team defeated Alleman 48-28. Match winners for the Bruins:  Hunter Savage, Henry Orteza,  Evan Englehaupt. Ben Koyak and Ryan Migliorini

 

The Ottawa bowling team were winners over Rochelle. High series came from Nelson Brandt with a 596 and a high game of 213. Sean Miller added a 587 series and a 235 high game.

 The JV team also won. Aaron Goff had a 487 series score and a high game of 176. 

 

 

Elsewhere in sports

College basketball action tonight, ISU will face Missouri State at the Red Bird Arena and Northern plays host to Eastern Illinois.

The Chicago Bulls will visit the New York Knicks tomorrow and The Brooklyn Nets on Saturday.  The Bulls are 14-and-8 on the season.

The Blackhawks begin a three-game road trip tomorrow in Washington against the Capitals.The Hawks will then travel to face the Rangers and Islanders in New York this weekend.

Former Cubs shortstop Javier Baez  signed a deal with the Detroit Tigers yesterday.  The six-year contract is reportedly worth 140-million-dollars. 

The Cubs are reportedly finalizing a one-year deal with outfielder Clint Frazier.

 

Major League Baseball and the Players Association are reportedly not close to making any ground on a collective bargaining agreement.  With the agreement set to expire at the end of today, the two sides came together for another attempt at an agreement but earlier free agency continues to be a major hurdle.  If no deal is struck, the likely result is a lockout from the owners.

 

The Lakers’ LeBron James has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols and is expected to miss several games for at least 10 days.  However the star forward can return earlier should he test negative for COVID-19 twice within a 24-hour span.  James received the COVID-19 vaccine back in September.
