Mary Lou (Hozie) Bown
1927 – 2021
Mary Lou (Hozie) Bown, 94, of Streator, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Pleasant View Luther Home in Ottawa, Illinois.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa with the Rev. Anne Ferguson, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Streator, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date at the Phoenix Memorial Park, Phoenix, Arizona.

Mary Lou was born in Streator, IL, on January 30, 1927, to Joe Hozie and Verneille (Dulian) Hozie, the second of three children. She grew up on the farm they called the “Hess Place” south of Grand Ridge. Mary Lou and her sister and brother attended the Rees School, a one-room school house located diagonally northeast across the field from the farm. After spending 8 years at the Rees School, she went on to Grand Ridge High School for 3 years and then graduated from Streator High School in 1944. In 1970, she and her husband, Jack, moved to Phoenix, AZ, in order to live in a warmer climate. There they began their termite pre-treat business working side by side and grew the business over the next 20 years until they decided to retire in 1990.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Anders) Donahue, and Jack’s 3 daughters, Beth (Gene) Oliver, Jaci (Kevin) Card, Cindy Russell, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews in the Streator area.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Doris Jean and Lawrence “Bud” Dimmig, her brother, Vernon Hozie, her son, Scott Anders, her son-in-law Bob Donahue, and many of man’s best friends, her amazing and beloved rescue dogs. Her nephew Larry always said that when he died, he was going to come back as one of Mary Lou’s dogs considering how well she treated her furry, four-legged friends.

Acting pallbearers will be grandsons, Josh Donahue, Ben Donahue and 4 great grandchildren.

The family is grateful to the staff at Pleasant View who provided such loving and tender care to Mary Lou during her stay at PVL over the past 4 years.
