At the Keith McIntosh Classic at the Illinois Math and Science Academy, Ottawa out performed their host IMSA 60-11. Top performers for the Lady Pirates were Zoe Harris with 16 points, Brooke Waddell with 12 points and Ella Marvel had eight points.

 

Marquette lost to Fieldcrest 68-45 at the Integrated Seed Solutions Classic hosted by Flanagan-Cornell and Woodland. Josie Eager  scored 17 points and Izzy Garkey had 15 points, four steals and five rebounds for the Lady Crusaders in the loss.

 

At the Tim Humes Breakout Tournament In game one LP defeated Newark 53-39. Brooklyn Ficek led the LAdy Cavaliers with a game-high 22 points.

In game two Somonauk were winners over Plano 39-31. Haley McCoy led the Lady Bobcats scoring 20 points.

 

At The Burlington Central season-opening tournament Earlville lost to Belvidere 43-37. Elizabeth Browder led the Lady Red Raiders with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

 

In junior high sports

Both Shepherd boys basketball teams defeated Streator Northlawn.

The 8th Graders won 32-14.  Leading the way for the Ram were Hezekiah Joachim, Colt Bryson, and Archer Cechowicz each scoring 8 points. 

The 7th grade won 29 to 14. George Shumway scored 12 points and Griffin Dobberstein added nine more. 

 

Elsewhere in sports

The Chicago Bulls visit the Portland Trail Blazers tonight.  The Bulls are coming off a 121-103 win over the Lakers on Monday. 

 

The Blackhawks open a four-game road trip tonight against the Seattle Kraken.  The Hawks won three straight under interim head coach Derek King.  Most recently, against the Arizona Coyotes 2-1 last Friday.  

 

Illinois head coach Bret Bielema will miss Saturday’s game at Iowa after testing positive for COVID-19.  Bielema was vaccinated and received the booster shot last week.  The 51-year-old said he should be available to return next week.  The 4-and-6 Illini need to win their final two games to lock up an invitation to a bowl game. 

 

Results in college basketball: ISU lost to Murray State 77-65 at the Redbird Arena, Northwestern defeated New Orleans 83-67, Western Illinois rolled past Iowa Wesleyan 97-71 and Notre Dame was a winner at home over High Point 70-61.

 

Tonight in College football, the NIU Huskies travel to New York to face the Buffalo Bulls.
