Girls basketball season tips off tonight. The Ottawa Lady Pirates will face Indian Creek at the IMSA Tournament. Marquette. LP, Seneca, St Bede and Streator are also starting season opening tournaments tonight.

 

At the State Finals in Girls Swimming over the weekend. LP  Co-Op’s lone state qualifier  Peyton Heagy finished her high school career placing 20th in the 50 freestyle and finishing 25th in the 100 freestyle in the preliminaries.

 

At the Lee Lohmen Bowling Invitational hosted by Geneseo, Streator took 3rd place, LP finished in 4th and Ottawa finished in 5th place.

The Pirates Nelson Brandt won MVP honors and placed 2nd for overall bowlers. Dustin Gende rolled a high game of 228 also for Ottawa. The Bulldogs high roller was Brady Grabowski who individually placed fifth. For the Cavaliers, Chance Hank finished ninth and Ethan Picco had the third highest single game score with a 245.

 

 

Last night the Bulls pulled away late in a 100-90 win over the Clippers in LA.  DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 35 points and Zach LaVine added 29 for Chicago.  The Bulls will remain in Los Angeles to take on the Lakers tonight.   

 

Number-ten Illinois plays its first road game of the season tonight against Marquette in the annual Gavitt Tipoff Games.  The Illini opened the season with blowout home wins over Jackson State and Arkansas State.  Illinois begins a two-week stretch without a home game at the State Farm Center.  

 

College football action over the weekend, Notre Dame beat Virginia 28-3, Northwestern fell at Wisconsin 35-7, Illinois State lost at North Dakota 14-7, and Southern Illinois took down Indiana State 47-21.

 

Over in the NFL, The Bears were on a bye and did not compete over the weekend.  The Kansas City Chiefs dominated the Raiders 41-14 in Las Vegas on Sunday Night Football. Tonight the LA Rams are in the Bay Area to take on the 49ers in a Monday Night showdown.  

 

The Chicago Red Stars are going to the National Women’s Soccer League championship game.  The Red Stars advanced by defeating the Thorns 2-0 in the semifinal in Portland and will play the Washington Spirit for the title Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. 

 

Jason Kokrak was the winner at the Houston Open in the PGA.

 

In Junior high sports

Both Shepherd boys basketball teams defeated Channahon.

The 8th grade team won 35-33.   Leading the way for the Rams: Lucas Farabaugh with 10 points, Jax Addis with 7 points, and Hezekiah Joachim with 6 points. 

The 7th graders won  27-17.: George Shumway scored 5 points, Griffin Dobberstein with 4 points and 8 rebounds in the Rams Victory.

 

Also Both Shepherd Girls basketball teams  were winners over Plano.

The 8th Graders won 42-14. Scoring for the Lady Rams  were Belle Markey with 13 points

Aubrey Sullivan and Mary Stisser each adding 8, Kindley Moore had  7 and Hayley Ewers finished with 6 points.

The 7th Grade team won 40-18. Ashlyn Ganiere led the way with  24 points and Meredith Waldron added 12 more..
