Last night The Blackhawks took a 3-2 shootout victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the United Center.  Jujhar Khaira and Seth Jones found the back of the net in regulation before Alex DeBrincat netted the deciding shot in overtime.  Marc-Andre Fleury made a season-high 42 saves and stopped both Pittsburgh chances in the shootout.  The Hawks have won two straight for the first time this season and will close out its three-game homestand on Friday night against the Arizona Coyotes.

The Chicago Bulls host the Dallas Mavericks tonight.  The Bulls are coming off a 118-95 win over the Nets on Monday and improved to 7-and-3.

Tenth ranked Illinois took down Jackson State 71-47 in their home opener in Champaign.  Jacob Grandison led the Illini with 20 points, and Coleman Hawkins added 13.  Illinois has now won 25 straight season openers at the State Farm Center.  The Illini will host Arkansas State on Friday.

 

Northern Illinois was a winner in coach Rashon Burno’s debut, stunning Washington 71-64. The Huskies Trendon Hankerson made six 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 28 points.

 

Northwestern beat Eastern Illinois 80-56. Boo Buie scored 17 points for the Wildcats.

 

Illinois State beat UNC Wilmington 68-63. The Redbirds Antonio Reeves had a career-high 29 points. 

 

In Local Sports

The Ottawa bowling team lost at home to Geneseo. High rollers for the pirates were Nelson Brandt and Aaron Goff.

The JV team were winners. Leading the way for Ottawa was Robbie Burke 

 

The LP bowling team won at home over Kaneland in their  season opener. Top performers for the Cavaliers were Chance Hank and Collin Wren.

 

Both Shepherd boys basketball teams were winners over Peru Parkside.

The 8th graders won 27-20. Leading the way for the Rams were Owen Sanders with 7 points and Archer Cechowicz with 6 points and 6 rebounds.

The 7th grade team won 34-11. Top performers for Shepherd were Griffin Dobberstein with 9 points and George Shumway with 8 points and 5 steals.
