Tomorrow afternoon  Marquette will host Fulton in Round two of Class 1A playoffs at Gould Stadium. Kickoff is at 1pm on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY and streaming live on 1430 WCMY DOT COM.

Other playoff games this weekend: Tonight in Class 5A Rochelle is at St. Patrick. On Saturday in Class 1A St Bede is at Ridgeview-Lexington.

Over in Class 3A Princeton will host Prairie Central and in Class 5A Morris is home to face Morton and Sycamore will host Glenbard South.

 

Last night on Thursday Night Football, The Colts celebrated a 45-30 victory over the Jets in Indianapolis. Quarterback Carson Wentz threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in the win.  Also for the Colts, Jonathan Taylor ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns. 

 

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy is back with the team after clearing COVID-19 protocol.  Nagy returned to Halas Hall on Tuesday after testing positive October 25th and spending eight days in quarantine.   Nagy ended up missing last Sunday’s loss to the 49ers at Soldier Field.  The Bears are preparing to face the Steelers on Monday Night Football in Pittsburgh.       

 

Also returning for the Bears, running back David Montgomery returned to the practice field yesterday for the first time since hurting his knee October 3rd in a win over the Lions.   After rushing for 309 yards and three touchdowns in the first four games this season, Montgomery has missed the last four games.

 

The Blackhawks visit the Winnipeg Jets tonight.  The Hawks are coming off a 4-3 loss to the Hurricanes on Wednesday.  The Hawks are currently 1-8-and-2.

 

College football this weekend

The Illini are at Minnesota. Notre Dame hosts Navy, Northwestern welcomes Iowa, Western Illinois hosts South Dakota, Eastern Illinois is at Austin Peay, Illinois State welcomes Northern Iowa, and Southern Illinois hosts Missouri State.

 

In Junior high sports

Shepherd competed against Marquette Academy in boys basketball. In the 8th grade game, the Rams lost 44-20. Colt Bryson scored 6 points in the Shepherd loss.

The 7th graders defeated the Academy 34-21.  Leading the way for the Rams, Griffin Dobberstein with 17 points and Landon Mangold adding 7 points.

 

In girls basketball, Marquette Academy were winners in both games when they traveled to face Woodland. The 7th graders won 26-14, scoring for the Lady Knights were Kinley Rick, Anna Hjerpe and Kelsey Cuchra each scored 8 points. Hunter Hopkins added two more to the final score.

The 6th grade team won 15-10. Kinley Rick scored all 15 points for the Academy.
