Patrick Kane returned to the lineup and scored a hat trick in the Blackhawks’ 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators at the United Center.  It was the Hawks first victory of the season, snapping an 0-7-and-2 start to the year.  Kane took sole possession of third-place in all-time franchise goals and moved into third-place in all-time points.  Brandon Hagel also scored a pair of goals for the Blackhawks who will host the Hurricanes tomorrow night.

 

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is defending the league’s actions in the Blackhawks’ scandal.  An independent probe concluded that the Hawks mishandled sexual assault allegations made by former player Kyle Beach against former video coach Brad Aldrich in 2010.  The league was criticized by some who felt the Blackhawks being fined two-million-dollars wasn’t enough.  Bettman said the fine was substantial by any measure.  .

 

DeMar DeRozan scored a game-high 37 points as the Bulls rallied to beat the Celtics 128-114 in Boston.  The Bulls outscored the Celtics 39-11 in the fourth quarter after trailing by 19 late in the third.  Zach LaVine added 26 points for the Bulls and Ayo Dosunmu chipped in with 14 off the bench in the win. The Bulls improved to 6-and-1 and will visit the Sixers tomorrow in Philadelphia.  

 

The Braves will try to close out the World Series in Game Six tonight in Houston.  Max Fried will take the mound for Atlanta, which is chasing its first title since 1995.  Luis Garcia will get the ball for the Astros.  Houston forced a Game Six after winning 9-5 on the road in Game Five. 

 

The Cubs are hiring Greg Brown as their lead hitting coach.  The 41-year-old Brown spent the last two seasons as Tampa Bay’s minor-league hitting coordinator. 

 

Last night on Monday Night Football, The Chiefs celebrated a 20-17 victory over the New York Giants in Kansas City. 

 

A couple of big injuries were announced by the NFL, Tennessee Titans’ star running back Derrick Henry is out indefinitely after suffering a foot injury and  New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Jameis Winston is going to miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL.

 

The Bears  tight end Jimmy Graham is off the COVID-19 list.  Graham missed the last two games against the Buccaneers and 49ers after being placed on the list October 23rd. 

 

The Fighting Illini basketball team will be without one of their top players to begin the season.  The NCAA suspended center Kofi Cockburn for the first three games of the season for selling apparel and memorabilia.  Cockburn sold the items in June, less than a month before name, image, and likeness legislation was enacted in Illinois on July 1st.
