Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says he wants people in the city to stop using the term “Martucky.”
The idea to stop using the term came from a social media post from the city and police department.
Hollenbeck says he thinks the term comes from when people from Kentucky moved to Marseilles.
But he says that’s not how it’s used now.
He says the term became derogatory when it refers to abandoned cars in driveways and properties not being taken care of.
