Older people who have free taxi ride cards in Ottawa will be getting new cards. City Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut says they must get their new cards by January 1st.

City Attorney Megan Cantlin says an ordinance update clarifies some things about who’s eligible. A person must be a city resident age 62 or up. The ordinance also clarifies that a qualifying person can get one round trip per day.

The card holder gets the ride and the taxi company bills City Hall. The city also pays some taxi ride costs for disabled people.
