Yesterday it was announced The Marquette Crusaders football game at Chicago Christ the King high school has been changed from 7 to 7:30  tomorrow night. Hear the game on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.

 

The Blackhawks trailed early and couldn’t recover, falling 4-2 to the Avalanche in the season opener in Denver.  Colorado scored three times in the first ten minutes of play, which proved to be the difference.  Dominik Kubalik and Connor Murphy netted goals for the Hawks, while Marc-Andre Fleury made 32 saves in his first game with the franchise.  The Blackhawks are in New Jersey tomorrow night to face the Devils.

 

The Chicago Sky fell 91-86 in an overtime thriller against the Mercury in game two of the WNBA Finals in Phoenix.  The series is now tied at one game apiece.  The Finals now shift to Chicago for game three tomorrow night.

 

The Cubs are working to finalize a deal that will name Carter Hawkins as GM.  Hawkins has spent the last 14 years in Cleveland’s front office.  The team promoted him to assistant GM under Mike Chernoff and president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti following the 2016 season.  Hawkins is replacing Jed Hoyer, who took over as the Cubs’ top front-office executive after Theo Epstein stepped down after the 2020 season.

 

Sports Scheduled for tonight

The first ever postseason series between the Dodgers and Giants comes to an end in San Francisco. Los Angeles fought off elimination with a 7-2 win over the Giants in Game Four, pushing the series to a winner-take-all Game Five.

 

The defending Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers and the Eagles will clash in Philadelphia on Thursday Night Football.  Tom Brady threw for five touchdowns in the Bucs win over the Dolphins last week. The Eagles are coming off an important road win over the Panthers.  

 

The PGA will be at The Summit Club for the CJ Cup. Jason Kokrak will be looking to defend his title after winning the tournament last year. The world’s number two golfer, Dustin Johnson, will be making his season debut.

 

In Junior High girls basketball

Both Shepherd teams defeated Spring Valley. The 7th Graders won big  31-0. Ashlyn Ganiere scored 18 points and Reese Purcell had  6 points for the Lady Rams. The 8th Grade team also won by a large margin  46-3. Top performers for the Lady Rams were Belle Markey with 11 points, Mary Stisser finished with 8 points, Skylar Nodland and Hayley Ewers each had  6 points in the win.

 

Marquette Academy defeated Putnam County at both grade levels. The 8th graders won 30-12. Morgan Collins led the Lady Knights with 12 points. The 7th graders won big 44-3. Top performers for the academy were Hunter Hopkins with 18 points and Morgan Collins adding 11 more.
