The White Sox’s run at a World Series title is over following a 10-1 loss to the Astros in game four of the ALDS at Guaranteed Rate Field. Carlos Rodon suffered the defeat after allowing two runs over two-and-two-thirds innings. The Sox lone run came on a homer by Gavin Sheets in the second inning. The South-Siders have not won a playoff series since winning the World Series in 2005.
The Houston Astros will face the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS.
The Braves are on their way to the NLCS. Atlanta clinched a spot in the championship series after topping the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-4 win at home in Game Four. Freddie Freeman hit the go-ahead home run off Brewers’ reliever Josh Hader in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Dodgers are pushing the NLDS to a winner-take-all Game Five. Los Angeles exploded on offense as it beat the Giants 7-2 to even the series. Mookie Betts and Will Smith each hit two-run homers for the Dodgers. The Giants used eight total pitchers on the mound.
The Blackhawks open the season tonight in Colorado against the Avalanche. Jonathan Toews will be playing in a Hawks uniform for the first time in over 19 months. Toews missed all of last season while dealing with Chronic Immune Response Syndrome.
The Chicago Sky look to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Mercury when the two teams face off tonight in game two of the WNBA Finals in Phoenix. The Sky took game one 91-77 on Sunday.
The AP poll for IHSA football this week came out, The Marquette Crusaders moved up from 10th to 7th ranked in the state for Class 1A. Also in Class 1A St Bede stayed in the top ten but dropped from 7th to 9th ranked. In Class 3A, Princeton climbed up from 8th to 6th and in Class 5A, Morris held on to the 5th spot.
The Ottawa Varsity team won on the road at Plano in volleyball. Grace Landers led the Lady Pirates with 8 kills, 2 aces and 2 digs.
Streator lost to Manteno in varsity volleyball. Alexa Jacobs had 4 kills and Mallory Goerne 3 kills in the Lady Bulldogs loss.
The JV squad beat Manteno, Zuzu Gonzalez earned 11 kills, 6 assists, 3 digs and Emma Rambo finished with 3 kills, 2 blocks, 15 assists and 5 digs for Streator.
Ottawa lost at home to Streator at King Field 4-2 in soccer. Gio Resendez scored both goals for the Pirates. Brady Grabowski finished with 2 scores, Landon Muntz and Davey Rashid each scored for the Bulldogs.
At the Class 1A Serena Regional semifinal in soccer, Mendota defeated Newark-Seneca 3-1. Johnathan Cortez led the Trojans scoring two goals.
In Junior High girls basketball
Both Shepherd teams defeated Mendota Northbrook.
The 7th Grade Lady Rams won 38-5,leading the way were Merideth Waldron with 18 points and Ashlyn Ganiere with 13 points.
The 8th Graders were victors 39-2. Aubrey Sullivan had 16 points and Belle Markey finished with 9 points for the Lady Rams.
Marquette Academy defeated Milton Pope at both grade levels. The 8th graders won 25-19 with Kelsey Cuchra leading the way for the Lady Knights with 13 points.
The 7th grade team won big 48-7. Top performers for the Academy were Hunter Hopkins, Kinley Rick and Anna Hjerpe each scoring 10 points.
