White Sox season is still alive in the ALDS. The Sox bats got hot in a 12-6 win over the Astros in game three in Chicago. Leury Garcia and Yasmani Grandal each homered in a five-run third as the South-Siders battled back from an early 5-1 deficit. Michael Kopech got the win after striking out five in relief. Houston still holds a 2-1 lead in the series.
Once again the Sox are in a must win today at Guaranteed Rate Field when they host the Astros in game 4 of the ALDS. Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the Pale Hose. Pregame starts at two oclock with the first pitch at 2:37 on 93.5 and 1430 WCMY.
Also in MLB postseason action, The Red Sox needed 13 innings but walked off the Rays 6-4 to take a 2-1 series lead. Today, the Brewers visit the Braves for Game Three with the series knotted at one game apiece. Tonight, the Rays look to avoid elimination against the Red Sox in Boston while the Dodgers host the Giants with their series tied at one.
The Chicago Bears are above 500 for the first time this season after beating the Raiders 20-9 in Las Vegas. Justin Fields threw for 111 yards and his first NFL touchdown, and Khalil Herbert and Damien Williams combined to rush for 139 yards in the win. The Bears and Packers do battle Sunday at Soldier Field.
In College football, Illinois suffered a 24-0 loss to Wisconsin on Homecoming Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Notre Dame won at Virginia Tech 32-29, NIU topped Toledo 22-20 and Western Illinois fell at Indiana State 37-27,
The Bulls improved to 3-and-0 in the preseason with a 102-101 win over the Cavs in Cleveland. The Bulls wrap up the preseason Friday at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Sky defeated the Mercury 91-77 in game one of the WNBA Finals in Phoenix. Game two of the best-of-five series is Wednesday in Phoenix.
At the IHSA Class 2A Boys State Tournament in golf at Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ottawa finished with a team score 633 to finish eighth. The Pirates’ Drake Kaufman shot a 75 on the final day and finished 11th overall with a total individual score of 146. Other Scores that counted for the Pirate team: Drake Stoudt shot a 156, Jonathan Cooper finished with a 160 and Seth Cooper ended the weekend at 179.
At the Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Seneca’s lone female state qualifier Rylee Stenzel carded a final score of 156 to finish 20th at the IHSA Class 1A Girls State Tournament
The Ottawa tennis team won the Interstate Eight Conference championship at Rochelle and will host their own Class 1A Sectional this weekend. The Pirates Ella Marvel in singles and the team of Emma Cushing and Rylee O’Fallon in doubles won their brackets to become I-8 champions.
Results from the final day of the Little Ten Conference Tournament in Volleyball:
- Newark defeated Earlville to claim the LTC Championship title.
- Indian Creek were winners over Serena in the 3rd place matchup.
- Hinckley-Big Rock beat Somonauk to win the consolation bracket.
Junior High Sports
The Marquette Academy competed at the Holy Family girls basketball tournament. The Lady Knights earned a second place finish after losing 25-15 to Trinity Catholic. The Academy was led by Hunter Hopkins with 11 points.
