Bikes have been causing some issues in Marseilles.

Commissioner Gary Lewey says homeowners have been complaining about both regular and motorized bikes on Main Street.

Lewey says he understands that the motorized bikes are smaller than a car but it doesn’t mean they can go fast.

He says that there have been complaints about cars going to fast down Main Street but he says motorized bikes can go about 28 mph.

Lewey says that he’s putting the city on notice and that ordinances for bikes can change.

Marseilles Police Chief Brian Faber also says there needs to be education for children about watching traffic and reminds kids that they are not allowed to ride their bikes on the sidewalk on Main Street.

Earlier this year Marseilles passed an ordinance saying people must register motorized bikes with the city.
